McKinley Clayton Lewis, JR.

McKinley Clayton Lewis, Jr., departed this life on November 21, 1993, at the age of seventy-five years. "M.C.", as he was known to all of his friends and fellow lawyers, was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on the 2nd day of October, 1918, was educated in the public schools of Hot Springs, received his BA and BS and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Texas and was admitted to the practice of law in both Texas and Arkansas in 1948.

He served as an assistant prosecuting attorney under R. Julian Glover from 1949 to 1954 and then served as Municipal Judge from 1955 to 1961, and served as President of Arkansas Municipal Judges Council.

He became a partner in the practice of law with Roy Mitchell and William Roy Mitchell, which firm later became Hobbs, Lewis, Mitchell, Garnett and Naramore.

He served in the U. S. Army on active duty from 1941 to 1945 and in the Army Reserve from 1949 to 1962 and retired with the rank of Lt. Col., Judge Advocate.

He was considered by all of the Masonic Organizations of Arkansas as one of the greatest Masons in the State, having served in most of the offices of the Masonic Organizations in the State.

He was admitted  to practice  in the  Supreme Court of  Arkansas  and  all inferior Courts, the Federal Court for the Western District of Arkansas, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

His practice over the years consisted of a great deal of pro bono work and the giving of advice to younger members of the Bar.

He was very active in the Lions Clubs, both domestic and international, having various offices in the local club, including President and District Governor, and also International Director.

Although he was semi-retired for the last five years of his life, he will leave a void in our legal profession and his Christian living and zeal shown in his Maxonic endeavors will always be an example to those who are left as to how we should live and practice our profession.
